Axis: Latino Young Professionals

AXIS is an 8-month leadership program designed for Latinx professionals, between the ages of 21-28, to develop personally and professionally and to prepare them to engage with civic and community leadership activities. Upon program completion, Axis participants will be confident Latinx professionals, equipped to unify, transform and serve the community.

Young latinos interested in applying to the Axis Leadership Program are required to attend all meetings and may miss no more than one of the monthly meeting dates. Upon completing the application, you are committing to attending all dates. Participants are required to arrive on time and to stay until sessions adjourn. Axis Leadership Program 5th Anniversary Video

In 2023 we celebrate Axis’ 5th year of turning young adults into young professionals!

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Latino Expo and the City of Indianapolis are excited to announce the selection of the sixth class of the Axis Leadership Program.

6th Cohort Members to be announced soon!

Selection of the sixth class of the Axis Leadership Program

The concept of the Axis Leadership Program began as part of Mayor Hogsett’s Latino Advisory Council as a significant lack of Latino leadership was noted within the Indianapolis community.

This program was a dream of many long-standing Latino leaders, including Former Advisory Council member, Carmen DeRusha, whose unrelenting leadership to see a leadership program come to fruition inspired the leadership team to develop the Axis Leadership Program.

“Real leaders represent the needs of people first. They are concerned about the wellbeing of their community and are less worried about acquiring power,” said DeRusha. This concept has become one of the founding core principals of the program. “Investing in the next generation of Latinx leaders is vital for the future success of our city,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “I want to thank Guadalupe Pimentel and Marco Dominguez, for their leadership of the Latino Advisory Council in prioritizing Latinx leadership in our city, as well as, Jordan Rodriguez, who has served as point person for Axis, and has helped make it the success that it is today.”

Axis is currently led by a five-person leadership team: Fabio Yataco, Maria De Leon, Alina Pizarro, Alejandro De Los Santos, and Bianca Salas. Class members are chosen through a competitive process based on their community involvement, personal vision, and achievement.
